The Abolishment of Homelessness
We support the immediate implementation of the “Ten-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness” established in the City of Knoxville and Knoxville County, Tennessee. Whereas our city has already reached certain milestones we will continue forward meshing the most recent approach into our local context. The Knoxville plan offers a ten point strategy outlined briefly as:
1. Move People into Housing First
2. Stop Discharging People into Homelessness
3. Increase Coordination and Effectiveness of Service
4. Increase Economic Opportunities
5. Implement New Data Collection Methods
6. Develop Permanent Solutions
7. Strengthen Partnerships with Faith-Based Organizations
8. Recognize Homelessness as a Community Challenge
9. Prevent Homelessness
10. Sustain the Prevention of Homelessness

Abolishment of Homelessness continued: As the plan develops we will continue to research and implement methods for ending homelessness relevant to our local region. This will be done in two ways. First we will gather information and offer continual support to the Ithaca / Tompkins County Continuum of Care System (CoC NY-510) organization. We will start by creating a homelessness prevention taskforce made up of community activist, residents, academic researcher’s and city officials. The taskforce will bridge the gap between the protocol set forth in the Knoxville “Ten-Year Plan” and the circumstances of Ithaca, NY.
